South African Yellow Rice
I married into a South African family and one of my favourite dishes is my Mother in law's South African Yellow Rice! Here's a recipe I tried out and liked.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Uncooked Basmati Rice
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 1/2 tsp Ground Turmeric
- 3 tbs White Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1 tbs Butter
- 2 1/2 Cups Water
Directions:
In a saucepan, combine the rice, salt, turmeric, sugar, cinnamon, raisins*, butter and water. Bring to a boil unconvered. When it comes to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and let simmer for 20 - 30 minutes, or until rice is fluffy and water has been absorbed. Remove from heat and fluff with a fork, then serve! Enjoy!
