Transitional Mommy Wear

When I started to gain that pregnancy weight, I visited my first maternity store on West 4th hoping to purchase my first pair of maternity pants. I walked into the store, excited and feeling blissful until I took a look at the price tag. I had to do a double take because wow, the prices were ridiculous! I'm a practical purchaser and I like to do my research before investing into a piece of clothing. One thing is for certain though, I would much rather spend more for quality piece items than poorly made, less costly stuff.

Here are a few of my favourite pieces of clothing from my favourite store, Aritzia. What I love the most about these pieces is that you can wear them at the very beginning of your pregnancy and long after it.

1. Community Ionic Cape - This could easily be my most favourite item, ever. I wear it during all 4 seasons and it has faced the test of time and two children! I’ve washed it almost every day and it hasn’t lost its shape and it looks and feels like it did the first day I got it. If my nursing cover is no where near me, I use this cape instead. It’s large enough for you to cover baby and the arm holes allow for air to come in so baby isn’t too hot. You can dress it up, you can dress it down and you can even wear it to the beach! It is so insanely versatile and I think every Mama and Woman should own this or something very similar to it.

2. Wilfred Lisiere Dress - I love this dress because it just looked so great with my belly bump! It’s one of those dresses that can stretch easily, without ruining its shape. It serves as a great maternity dress and even a post-pregnancy dress. I know a number of girlfriends who took maternity photographs wearing this and they looked absolutely fabulous. I wore mine with booties and if I had to dress it up, I wore them with a pair of high heels!

3. Wilfred Yasmin Dress - The Yasmin and Lisiere Dresses are made with the same fabric but the shape is much different with the Yasmin being shorter and showing a bit of skin with the sassy little waist preview ;). What I love about this dress is that you can wear it backwards with the little slit in the front! Pre-pregnancy I wore this with the slit in front and I loved it. When I was pregnant, I wore it with a cardigan or a blazer and with the slit hidden away. Since I gave birth to baby H in May, I wore this dress almost every day because the weather called for it and it was so comfortable! Also, it’s easy to breastfeed in. Definitely my favourite dress.

4. Wilfred Free Decker Hat - I actually have the polyester Decker Hat in the black shiny material but the faux leather Decker is gorgeous too! For the first month or so, I didn’t leave the house without this. With two kiddos to get ready and errands to run, I didn’t have time to blow dry and style my hair. This hat saved me on more than one occasion and was perfect during my workouts. I’m sad they don’t make this same one anymore because I would purchase another, just in case!

Just because your pregnant doesn’t mean you have to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on maternity wear to stay stylish, Mamas! Find items that have stretch, are oversized, airy and most importantly are comfortable for you. Other stores to check out are, Forever 21 (I bought lots of stretch jeans here for $5 - $10!), H & M ($15 dresses!), and even Walmart ($5 leggings!).
