Our Trip to Osoyoos, British Columbia
With the Canadian dollar being the way it is, my Husband and I decided that 2016 be the year that we do most of our travelling within Canada. More specifically, in our beautiful Province of British Columbia.

Our first Canadian Adventure was a trip to Osoyoos, BC. We found an awesome deal via Social Shopper and couldn't resist not taking the opportunity to get up and leave for a couple of days. Despite the rainy weather forcasted for those days, we decided to suck it up and BE CANADIAN.
Osoyoos in March is still very cold but thankfully the sun made an appearance for most of our visit which allowed us to do lots of walking and sight seeing.
Osoyoos is about 4 hours away from Vancouver but like all parents know, travelling with 2 young kids adds about an 1.5 hours to the trip. The drive to Osoyoos consisted of lots of rain and snow, it felt like we drove through all 4 seasons! Upon arriving to Osoyoos, you are greeted by the spectacular view of Osoyoos lake and the small city is filled with local shops and hotels/motels galore. The locals are the nicest people and we were often stopped by people just to chat.
We stayed at the Best Western Hotel, a cozy and family friendly accomodation that just so happened to be in the Top 5 List for Best Osoyoos Hotels. We paid $150 (taxes not included) for 2 nights in a suite suitable for 4 people. It was set up like a 1 bedroom condo and included a fully functional kitchen, a small patio and seperate living and sleeping quarters. It was perfect for my family and allowed Hubby and I to get some Dateline in while the kids were asleep! The stay included free breakfast that consisted of Tim Hortons goodies, bagels, toast, yogurt, an assortment of cereal, scrambled eggs, breakfast sausages and even a do-it-yourself waffle station. The kids got to choose from hot chocolate to an assortment of juices and the adults had their regular choice of tea and coffee. We're pretty easy in regards to breakfast food so this suited us just fine. The Best Western is about a 10-15 minute walk to the nearest beach and a 5 minute drive to the city center which is a strip of restaurants and local shops. The BW is right beside one of Osoyoos' attractions called Rattlesnake Canyon, a western mining town themed amusement park which is probably one of the reasons why it's one of the Top 5!
We didn't get a chance to get adventurous with our meals but we did get to eat at the Pizza Factory which we could imagine got very crowded during the Spring and Summer months. The Vegetarian special was full of fresh veggies and their hot wings were delicious. During our walk through the City we stopped at the Wander Shop, a furniture store that features exotic treasures from South America. We loved the handmade items they sold and were pleased to find out that they have a location here in Vancouver located on Main Street.
Despite Osoyoos being a very old school, laid back and slow paced community, we saw a lot of electric car stations. At the BW there was even a Tesla charging station! There were hundreds of wineries which we noted to visit the next time we're back. We enjoyed the peace and quiet we experienced during our stay and loved how easy going the community seemed. My Husband and I both agreed that we would probably only come back during Spring and Summer to get the best out of their beautiful beaches and water sports but it was nice to get away and to experience a part of BC that we have never visited before.
