Baby-Led Weaning

My daughter is 9 months and today I decided to start on Baby Led Weaning (BLW). I won't forget the first time I heard about this method of introducing solids and I won't forget the look of utter disbelief that I got when I asked what it was, haha.

Baby Led Weaning simply put, is allowing your child to feed themselves. Believe it or not but a lot of Parents skip the whole purée business! I've introduced purées to my children both at exactly 6 months. I started BLW a bit late with C at 11 months and I made a mental note that I would start earlier with Baby H.

This afternoon I chopped up some delicious steamed yams and organic chicken breast. I also cooked mini pasta stars and mixed it with peas, carrots and chicken and carrot paella sauce. My daughter has a very big appetite, (I swear it rivals her brothers) so I thought 2 dishes would please her. I started off with the chicken and sweet potatoes and what do you know, my girl is a natural. I had no trouble introducing the pasta dish to her because she was asking for more! Her chewing skills and coordination amazed me and between me and you, relieved me! She accepted this new way of eating with open arms and an open mouth. Her ability to get her sweet potatos from the tray to her mouth is pretty adorable and her determination is admirable.

I am thrilled that baby H took to BLW quite well and now I'm looking forward to more meals I can make for her. Here are a few meal ideas and recipes I've found on Pinterest that I'll be cooking for baby H's meals. Stay tuned for future blog posts about these recipes.
