The Greater Vancouver Zoo
Over the long weekend we took the kids to the Greater Vancouver Zoo and after spending the whole day there, it is our favourite family outing to date. The Zoo is open all year round with the exception of Christmas. Although to truly enjoy your visit I suggest going on a sunny day because most of the attractions are outdoors and there's a good chance that you'll see more animals walking about. I took a photo of their entry prices but you can easily pop over to their online website and find their prices there too. All-day parking is $6, not too bad considering we pay more than triple that for the Aquarium. The animals were all out to play with the exception of the giraffes which was a bummer for us because C loves them but to make up for that, we made it on time for the lion and tiger feeding at 1pm! That was certainly an experience that I will never forget and the kids, even baby H enjoyed it very much! C kept roaring his heart out which was such a mom win that I could hardly contain my happiness! There is a little train that tours you around the entire zoo and an awesome four-people bike available for rent. We saw a lot of kids who brought their own bikes and scooters too, which we thought was pretty cool. As you can imagine, there is tons of outdoor space, which we loved because it allowed our son to run freely without disrupting anyone else's visit. We had lunch there and were pleasantly surprised to see that other families had brought in their own food. My kids aren't fans of sweets and so we brought our own apples, oranges and bananas! The outdoor concession is your typical one with hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, etc. They also sold mini donuts (yeah!!), cotton candy and the most delicious popcorn! Prices are ridiculous of course but hey, that's what's expected right? Side note: Once you've been to Disney you'll get why this isn't a surprise to me. We really enjoyed our visit to the zoo and will be going back again this summer. Like I mentioned above, this is our favourite family outing to date! Check out the animal friends we made, besides the lion, lionesses and tiger, I loved the Ankole Cow and the Flamingos!
