Our Trip to Harrison Hot Springs
We just arrived home from a quick Mothers Day getaway to Harrison Hot Springs! Every moment spent in this beautiful place was pure bliss. I am so thankful for my Husband for planning our little retreat and giving me some well needed time away from reality. Despite his injury as he was in a severe car accident earlier in the year, he always makes an effort for his family. Harrison is about an hour and forty five minute drive for us. A secret oasis of hot springs where you're surrounded by snow capped mountains and if you're fortunate enough, graced with what feels like, eternal sunshine. We stayed at the Harrison Beach Hotel and perused every crevice of what this little place had to offer. Although, the majority of our time was spent by the lake or in it of course!
Special thanks to my Husband for all of the photographs he took of us. He's the best.
The Hotel Was mediocre and I say this with love. I guess. We checked in early (1pm) and we were ready to explore until we realized that our hotel door wouldn't lock. For the next 20 minutes, we had to listen to a couple of repair men banging away at our door. With two kids, who were eager to get out and enjoy the sunshine I could'nt wait any longer and went downstairs and asked to be moved. Also, I found a pair of jeans and a flannel shirt left by the previous hotel guests in the washroom which pretty much had me out the door and ready to go. Fortunately, the hotel staff were accommodating and put us in a better suite on a higher floor, which we totally appreciated. Needless to say, our check in wasn't as easy as we thought it would be but its all over and done and despite the issues, we had a great stay at the hotel! So great that we would probably stay here again. Also, if you plan on staying at the Harrison Beach Hotel, make sure to grab a room with a lake view. The view of the lake was so amazing to wake up to every morning and to look out to in the evenings. Absolutely breathtaking!
The Food We visited 4 different restaurants during our stay. I looked to Expedia the Travelocity reviews for more information on the local eats and tried a couple on their top 10 list! We chose according to what was more kid-friendly. The Lakeside Cafe We loved the breakfast they served here so much! My husband and I aren't huge eggs Benny fans as most of the restaurants in Harrison served this dish as their breakfast meal of choice so when we came across this restaurant, we were thrilled. I picked up a veggie omelette dish, my husband had a Spanish omelette and our son had chicken and waffles from the kids meal. The omelettes came with a side of hash and toast.
The Village Pizzeria Our family loves pizza so much that our 11 month old can say pizza already! This holds the number one spot on the top ten restaurant list on Travelocity.ca so we knew we had to give it a try. We ordered a large vegetarian with a side of hot wings as we prefer the classics when it comes to pizza. They packed our pizza with delicious veggies and lots of ooey gooey mozzarella cheese, which we loved. The wings were standard hot wings, which were delicious too. Make sure to take a photo with their Sasquatch!
Yukiya Sushi A day of being gluttons and we were craving for something other than fries and pop so we decided to try out Yukiya. I ordered the chicken udon and my husband ordered the California roll box but had the gyozas replaced with tempura. Both meals were standard but being from Vancouver kinda makes you a sushi connesiur right? Anyway, we thought our meal was less than average and the prices were absolutely ridiculous. We paid $65 for the above, a couple of sodas and an order of California rolls. The service was great though!
Harrison Hamburgers We made this our go-to spot to be gluttons. Burgers, fries, poutine and ice cream of course! The old man who runs this old fashioned burger joint is the nicest guy, ever and because of that, we wanted to come back. That's what we'd call the most sincerest form of customer service! Service that makes you want to come back.
The Sights You're surrounded by lake, lake, lake and beautiful tree and snow capped covered mountains! The views are breathtaking. We spent the majority of our time by or in the lake, the kids loved playing in the sand and splashing in the water. We took a stroll on their bike path, a short but fun little walk and came across Harrison's claim to fame, a hot spring! Now, I've been to Harrison many times but I've never got to hang out in a hot spring before so this was incredibly cool. We were warned by a fellow hot springer that the water was extremely hot and after having to pull my very adventurous son out of the spring, yes if was VERY hot. Our kids really enjoyed the playground located just by the lake!
C playing in the Waum Chuck hot spring! The water was HOT.
We can't wait to go back already!
