My Summer DIY's!
Summer isn't just about barbecues and pool parties, it's for DIY's too! This summer, I wanted to tackle some mini-major projects. If that makes any sense. So without further ado, here's what I've been working on.
We needed a bedroom refresh and I added a few new pieces of art, as well as another storage (not pictured) chest to keep some lose items in hiding. It's not much but it definitely makes such a difference for my husband and I. Waking up and going to bed to an all-white space, is just so "zen" to us. Also, under that mess of a bed are a few babies napping away.

I loved our oversized typography art prints that were custom made by our good friend, Jane from Illustrations and Things. However, we needed more space and storage for our ever growing family. I'll be putting those up in the kids room (stay tuned!). I've always loved the look of reclaimed wood and if you've ever been to our home, you'd know it! These shelves were no exception to my obsession and I got busy planning and getting all of the supplies I needed to get the job done.
Remember my previous post about the DIY Farmhouse sign? I decided to do something more personal and I ended up creating a last name sign instead. Doesn't it look great? I got my letters by printing off letters via my MacBook.

This project took the longest and despite one minor break down during the process, I got it done and I am so thrilled with the results! I've been wanting to do something about this downstairs closet for some time because to me, it was wasted space and I was never really proud to walk by it. I grew up in a large house, that included a forbidden room that my brother and I were not allowed to step foot in and a living room that just wasn't a room that wanted to be lived in. There was lots of unused space in that house and I think that is one of the reasons why I'm so keen on utilizing every inch of our humble abode. This closet was no exception.
My father-in-law is a professional contractor and he was kind enough to provide me with a set of plans for my bench and all of the wood. I wallpapered, stained the wood and gathered all of the necessary items to make it our own while my husband did the sawing, hammering and putting together. It was certainly a bit tricky since nothing in that closet was consistent in regards to measuring but thankfully, my husband is super handy so this was super easy for him to complete.
I still have some things to do, like make my own all-black bench pad with skirt, some more decor and finally, to cut and stain wood for my shelf but I'm so happy that the bench is done and the project can be ticked off my to-do list.
