Tianqi Li of Under The Tree Photography

I had the huge honour of working alongside Tianqi, a local photographer and the owner of Under The Tree. Her style stood out to me because it was very different from what I was used to when it came to family photography. I loved that her shots captured the honest and natural side of her muses. I naturally gravitated towards the beautiful shots she had of families and loved that she had the ability to capture the love between a mother and child. Her photographs weren't confrontational, they were relaxed, comfortable and showed so much emotion. I knew that she would be the perfect fit for our family.

Fun fact: Tianqi lived in Denmark and worked as a toy designer!

Over email, Tianqi was so easy going and open to all of my questions and ideas. I loved and appreciated how proactive she was in scheduling a session with me. With our busy family schedule she made sure to accommodate our requests for an earlier appointment. The first question she asked was what our family did on the weekends. My answer was, go on walks and visit parks/beaches. So with that, we picked a park in Richmond, BC. When the day came, we met and chatted like we had been friends for years. She is so easy to talk to and I felt confidant that this was going to be our best shoot ever! It was lovely to hear about her life story and what brought her back to Canada. I could feel her passion for photography. I asked her what she wanted us to do and she simply replied, play. Needless to say, my kids had the best time! Tianqi was relaxed, cool and calm the entire session which made the kids and I feel so at ease. Our session flew by and she had lots of photos to choose from. And yes, it is the BEST shoot we've experienced yet and we look forward to taking more in the summer!

I was pleasantly surprised with just how comfortable my kids were with her. My son did his thing, run and cause all sorts of trouble. My daughter, who loves the camera but is particular with certain people, was smiling and enjoying her time playing with her brother. Tianqi captured my kids in their natural habitat -- And they were playing so nicely together! Mom Win! With her style being new territory to me, seeing these shots made me rethink my beliefs on family photoshoots. I love how much these photos make my heart so full when I look at them and I love that she captured their beautiful smiles. We can't wait to put these up at home!
